Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters, especially when you're reaching out for support. This page explains what information we collect through this website, why, and the choices you have.

01Who we are
This website belongs to Shaun Barry, a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist practising in Brighton & Hove and online. Shaun is the data controller for any personal information collected through this site, which means he is responsible for deciding how it is used and for keeping it safe.
If you have any questions about this policy or your information, please email info@shaunbarrypsychotherapy.co.uk.
02The information we collect
We only collect the information you choose to give us through the contact form:
- your name and email address
- your phone number, if you choose to provide it
- the type of enquiry, and any session format or time preferences you select
- the message you write
- your consent choices, including whether you'd like occasional updates about the practice
Because this is a therapy practice, your message may include information about your mental or physical health. This is known as special category data and is given extra protection by law. Please share only what you're comfortable with — there will be time to talk properly in your consultation.
03Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the service that hosts this site keeps routine technical logs — such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested — so the site can run securely and reliably.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or profile your information. The site's fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google and shares your IP address with them when the page loads.
04How we use your information
- to reply to your enquiry and answer your questions
- to arrange a free consultation or session, if you'd like one
- to send occasional updates about the practice — only if you've opted in, and you can opt out at any time
- to keep the website secure and working properly
05Our lawful basis
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) we rely on:
- Consent — which you give when you submit the contact form, and which you can withdraw at any time
- Explicit consent — for any health information you choose to include in your message
- Steps before a contract — when you ask us to arrange a consultation or session
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the website secure
07International transfers
Some of our service providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
08How long we keep it
If your enquiry does not lead to therapy, we delete your details within 12 months of our last contact. If you ask us to delete them sooner, we will.
If you go on to become a client, your enquiry becomes part of your client record. How those records are kept is explained in your therapy agreement, in line with BABCP professional guidelines.
09Keeping it safe
Information sent through this website is encrypted in transit, and access is limited to Shaun. Our service providers are chosen for their security standards. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take care to protect your information and act quickly if anything goes wrong.
10Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to restrict or stop using your information
- receive your information in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, including for updates
To use any of these rights, email info@shaunbarrypsychotherapy.co.uk. We'll respond within one month.
12Making a complaint
If you're unhappy with how your information has been handled, please get in touch first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
